TINNITUS

Tinnitus is the perception of sound in or around your ears or head.  Tinnitus is not a disease but it can result or be exacerbated by many underlying causes such as: ear wax, ear infections, TMJ disorder, sinus problems, nose allergies, vascular problems, tumors, side effect to some medications, hearing loss and exposure to loud noises. 

AUDIOLOGICAL AND OTOLOGICAL DIAGNOSIS

It is essential that all patients with tinnitus should be seen by an Audiologist for an audiological exam and by an ENT Specialist for a medical evaluation to rule out any middle or inner ear disorders that could be causing tinnitus. 

Treatment for Tinnitus

Medications: anti-anxiety, anticonvulsant, antihistamines,   cardiovascular medications

Sound Therapy: - hearing aids, hearing devices, masking devices, sound therapy machine

Demystification:  Tinnitus Retraining Therapy - Learn the real mechanism of tinnitus

Diet Modification - lower sodium

Neuromonics - long-term relief without medication or surgery

Alternative Therapies:  Relaxation Training, Yoga, Biofeedback training, Hypnosis  or Acupuncture
